Motorcycle Run
Born to be Wild is our first annual Motorcycle Run. We are doing this run to help ensure that our children have choices. Our dream of having a Motorcycle Run will be a reality on June 7th with a raindate of June 14th at the Orange Lantern 15 Firehouse Lane Paramus with a fully escorted ride to Bear Mountain and back. Registration is at 10am and riding at 12pm back for a blow out after party by 1:30pm.
The run will benefit our Special Angels Recreation program, a year round recreation, therapy and leisure activity organization. There will be 2 live bands a pig roast and more at the after party. Special Angels Recreation is growing and we want to continue to grow. Our goal is to continue to give children affected by autism and other different abilities choices but this requires funding.
Therapy is very expensive! Most of our families can't afford the many therapies that are out there but so desperately needed but with more funding we can help to educate our staff on current proven therapies so they can provide them to our children or hire professionals t provide the therapy with little or no cost to the caregivers. We can hire an art therapist and music therapist to provide these services for our children. We can start our own special needs Karate program that will help our children with fine and gross motor skills, following directions and build self esteem in a structured environment, we can continue to provide the many therapies we already have in place and much more.
We are running out of room. Mayor Di Lascio along with the Lyndhurst Recreation have been wonderful to us but we are creating so many new programs that we running out of space and need our own space so we can add and grow. By either renting an existing facility or building a facility the sky is the limit on what we can provide. We are also finding that we need our own small multipurpose field that is completely gated in for the safety of our children. Fields are scarce and we have certain requirements because our children are special needs so building our own field would enable us to have a small multipurpose field to run our sports programs. This cannot happen overnight but with successful fundraisers like our run we can move closer to that goal.
We are now providing children with Drum Therapy, we are waiting for our license to be a provider of Listening Therapy, our Social Skills Group has grown to 3 classes a week, our Exceptional Dance has a dance recital complete with costumes scenery lighting and gives the children a chance to get a good workout, build their fine and gross motor skills, socialize, build self esteem and promotes normalization, our Cheer/Dance Squad has been a huge success we have been in 3 competitions invited to the Disney competition and going to Trenton to perform in front of the State Assemblymen., Tee Ball, Soccer, Bowling, and Basketball are our sports programs for any child age 2 to adult. There is so much more that we provide for children this is just a sample of what our children have available to them and we plan on adding so much more with additional funding and our own space.
For our caregivers we have Speaker Meetings/Workshops and support. We provide a family that will be there for each other through good times and bad times. Everyone needs a place to go where they are understood we have that now.
We have special events through the year. Our Art Show is something that we are very proud of. Our children create the artwork that hangs at a gallery for a month with a reception for the young artists complete with media. Our Art Auction is a fine dining adult affair where we auction the paintings off. This serves as a night out for the parents and we invite some local and State level officials to raise awareness and show our leaders what our children are capable of so they continue to write laws to protect and enhance their lives. We have our Softball Challenge where our parents play against the LFD and NAFD it’s a great night and an autism awareness event. Dinner with Santa and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny are family events where we celebrate the holiday together as a family. We also do group trips and a Pumpkin Picking Hayride Trip for Halloween. Our soon to be Parents Survival Night (a night out for parents) is going to give the parents a chance to do some errands, have some personal time or just put their feet up and relax knowing their child is in a safe atmosphere. You can help to ensure that we continue to provide the services need for families affected by autism and other lifelong diseases for many years to come by contributing in any way you can to events like this.
